Buffalo Check Treat Jar

It seems I always have mason jars in my craft room.  I save them even though I don’t know what I’m going to do with them. Don’t we all do that or is it just me? 🙂 This Buffalo Check treat jar is one you can use for all occasions and is quick to make.  This DIY was made for pennies since I had most of the supplies already.

Supplies you will need

Mason Jar- any size will work for this

Twine-AMAZON STORE

Buffalo Check Napkin- Marshalls- however you can use any napkins you have on hand

Chalkboard Heart- DOLLAR TREE

POM POM- Michaels’

Let’s get started making this buffalo check jar

To get started you will pull the napkin apart. Typically, napkins are either 2 ply or 3 ply, you want to take all the layers off and just use the top layer. I absolutely love this buffalo plaid one I found at Marshall’s. Once you have the napkin taken apart , cut the napkin so it fits the jar. In my case, I just needed to cut the napkin in half.

To prepare your jar, you will apply a thin layer of mod podge, it’s best to make sure all areas of the jar are covered.  Thin layer is key because it will leave less wrinkles in your napkin.  When working on a round service, it’s best to lay the jar down in the center and roll your napkin up. Smooth the napkin out as you are doing this. The napkin is very thin so be gentle.

Once you have the napkin on the jar, put a top coat of mod podge to seal the napkin.  The top coat just like the base coat needs to be a light coat.

Once your mod podge is dry you can use sandpaper to take off the excess. You have to make sure the jar is completely dry otherwise the napkin will tear.

Here’s a tip: Set your oven to 150 degrees, place your jar on a tray and put in the oven for about 15 minutes to cut drying time

Now we move to the fun part of the Buffalo Check treat jar, the pom pom!! I found this cute pom pom ornament at Michael’s, it was a Christmas ornament on clearance.  I simply glued the pom pom to the top of my jar lid. Super easy!

Finishing this buffalo check treat jar

To add something a little extra to the jar I wrapped jute around the top. Secure the jute with a little hot glue. The jute I like to use you can find in my AMAZON STORE.

Now these buffalo check jars can be used for decoration but I wanted them to be gifts  I decided to make this one for my daughter and fill it with her favorite candy. I added a cute heart tag that I found at DOLLAR TREE .

You can also check my quick video on how I made this DIY.

So that’s it! I hope this inspired you to give it a try.  I would love to know if you do! If you loved this one you may also like this DIY

Also I know, as a crafter we don’t always have time to do a project so make sure to PIN IT this for later!

Happy Crafting!
