25 Jul

I have to be honest, I didn’t even know Christmas in July existed. I’m lucky if I even keep up with all the other holidays. However, this July was different. I was inspired to create a DIY that had some holiday feel. Since Christmas craft supplies are just being stocked in stores it was best to check my stash. Sure enough, I had some items and decided to go for it. Who would have a thought a toboggan, some wooden beads and a little twine can make such a fun unique piece.

SUPPLIES

  • Toboggan
  • Red Twine
  • Twine
  • White Paint
  • Christmas Clips
  • 20mm Wooden beads
  • Silver Bells or Bow

First, you start with giving a light feathered look to the wood with the white paint. Put minimal paint on the brush and gently brush it against the wood. I always go with the grain of the wood to give it the best look.

Once you have it the way you love can start working on the beads. There’s something about wooden beads that makes me happy. They have such a soft feel, they go with any decor, plus, with them being unfinished you can paint them however you want. For this project you will need about 20 beads to start, however, you can make your string as long as you like. Make a small knot at the end of a piece of twine and start stringing the beads. To attach the beads to the piece I drilled a small hole at the very top, threading the twine through it and tied a knot to hold it in place.

Now to make the fun tassel for the beads, simply take the red twine and wrap it around your hand about 50 times. If you like to have a more plush tassel you can keep wrapping. Once you are happy with it, slip the twine off your hand holding it together, tie another piece of twine in the center of the circle and cut. There you have it, a tassel!

FINISHING TOUCHES

Now it’s just adding the finishing touches. The Christmas clips were the perfect fit to hold the photos, or you can even hang Christmas cards on them. The bells scream Christmas but you can embellish the piece to your liking. You can even add a beautiful bow instead of the bells, but I’m not a bow maker so I went with bells. Yes, I added the tiny bow but that doesn’t count as a bow. 🙂

This project took less than an hour to make. I hope this inspires you to try something new and add that special touch to your home! Comment what you thought about this project!
