DIY Bathroom Sign

We have been in the house for almost a year and I really need to start getting more things up on the wall.  You would think I would start with photos, but nope, I have to DIY this bathroom sign.  I have been seeing a lot of these signs on Pinterest and knew I needed to recreate it.  After looking for one already made, I found they were very expensive.  So, like I always say, don’t buy it, DIY it! I was lucky enough to find this sign at Hobby Lobby, it was perfect!

Let’s get starting making this diy bathroom sign

I started with painting the sign with my favorite paint, Waverly White.  It’s best to sand the piece of wood first before painting.  I did only a few coats because I wanted the wood to show through.

After all my coats dried, I took a 100 grit sandpaper and started taking off some of the paint around the edges.  Usually if you want a worn look you take paint off the places that would normally wear.

It’s that simple! After the wood was done I started to work on the design.  If you have a Cricut it is super easy to make the design yourself.  I simply googled Bathroom sign and found this one. I uploaded the photo into Cricut design space and cut it out.  I find that Oracal Oramask 813 Stencil Film Roll, is the best stencil material to use.  Once you cut out the design, weed it, then use tranfer tape to get your design on the board.

All that’s left is to paint the design on the board.  I use Wavery Ink paint. It’s best to use a stencil brush to apply the design, I find I have less bleed through. You can watch me make it LIVE here.

Once my design was done and dry, I removed the stencil and was ready to hang up my sign.

The point in all of this is that sometimes you can buy exactly what you need, but it’s more fun to make it yourself.  When you see a piece, think outside the box and make it your own.  If you loved this DIY check this one out too: DIY RECIPE ROLLING PINS
