steps to make a DIY bunny pillow

Step 1 – Iron your drop cloth piece. Print out your bunny tracer pattern and tape the pieces together to create your bunny outline.

Step 2 – Cut out the bunny from your pattern.

Step 3 – Next put your bunny on a puppy pad or cardboard to avoid paint bleeding through. Use painter’s tape to make a wide stripe in the center. Use more painter’s tape to create a thinner stripe on each side resembling a grain sack pattern. Brush the blue lagoon acrylic paint as your stripes. Be sure to remove the tape when done. Allow to dry or use a heat gun to speed the drying up.

Step 4 – Stack the striped bunny on top of the back piece and fold down the top half. Add hot glue about an inch from the edge. Bring the top up and secure the edges together. You will want to work in sections so your hot glue does not dry. If you prefer, you can sew the pillow front and back together.

Step 5 – Add some poly fill into the top of the bunny where you have already glued it. Use your fingers or a wood dowel to get enough filling into the ears first. If the seam opens, don’t worry! Touch up any openings that seem to open back up after gluing.

Step 6 – Keep adding poly fill into the bunny head. Continue hot gluing the edges about an inch in, working in sections and securing the top to the bottom. Leave a bottom section open to allow for more filling.

Step 7 – Add more filling to the middle section of your bunny, filling as close as you can to the bottom. Finish it off by hot gluing the bottom closed.

Step 8 – Stack your coordinating fabrics on top of each other. Use your rotary cutter to trim 1” wide strips. Separate the strips if necessary.

Step 9 – Use a Pom Pom Maker or cardboard and begin wrapping fabric strips around to make a rag bow. You will continue wrapping fabric strips until you’ve reached your desired thickness for your rag bow.

Step 10 – Tie the center of the rag bow with a piece of jute with a tight double knot. Cut the loops with fabric scissors. Fluff and shake out the strips to make it full. Trim any long fabric pieces or excess jute.

Step 11- Hot glue the rag bow onto the bunny’s tail. Wrap a length of jute around the bunny’s neck and tie in a cute bow. Add a pink flower on the jute necktie to finish off your bunny pillow!
