DIY Cookbook Stand
SUPPLIES NEEDED

- 2 pieces of rectangular scrap wood (6 ½ x 2 inches)
- 2 pieces of the triangular wedge scrap wood (door stoppers)
- Dixie Bell Vintage Duck paint
- Dixie Bell Voodoo Gel Tobacco Road stain color
- IOD Stamps (farm animals)
- Baby wipes
- Sanding tool
- Staple gun
- Vaseline
- Pallet knife
- Brayer Rolling
- Ink Pad
- Chicken Wire Ribbon
- Heat gun
- Puppy pads
STEPS:
1 – To begin, wipe down your wood cutting board, while wearing gloves, sand down your board a bit. Wipe off your excess debris.
2 – Grab your baby wipes and a tiny bit of Dixie Bell Voodoo Gel. Rub all over your wooden board. Add as much as you like to have whatever depth of stain, you want. Don’t forget to get it all over your wooden board to finish it off. Make sure it is dry before moving on.
3 – Grab your Vaseline and a tiny little pallet knife to add to your board where you want to create the “Chippy” look we are going for. You only need a tiny little bit of Vaseline. You are not needing to completely cover your board but just add some accent areas.
4 – Grab your Dixie Bell Vintage Duck color and a paintbrush. Cover lightly, so as not to make your Vaseline go all over the place. Remember to paint your sides to complete the look.
5 – With your heat gun, dry to speed up the process.
6 – Grab a tiny scraper or putty knife, using the dull side, and begin scraping down and up your board. This will repel the paint that we put on over the Vaseline. This is creating the “Chippy” look we are going for. Grab your sanding tool again and go over your board completely again. This will smooth out your board and distress your board in a good way. Remember those sides and top edges.
7 – Wipe with a damp towel to remove debris.
8 – Grab your IOD stamps, farm animal edition, and condition the rough side of your stamp if it is the first time using them. Rough the stamp up a bit with your sandpaper, to help it collect the ink better as you use it.
9 – With your Brayer Ink Roller in hand, add some ink to your pad. Simply roll your Brayer roller back and forth over the stamp pad, and then roll over the stamp you selected. Tip* This saves some ink and doesn’t fill in the negative area on your stamp you don’t want to show.
9 – Once your stamp is ready with ink, carefully place your stamp on the top center of your wooden board. Be careful not to shift your stamp. Remember to wipe off your stamps with a wipe after use, or even soap and water. Place back on your stamp sheet to store for your next project.
10 – Dry your stamp with a heat gun.
11 – Grab your Dixie Bell Clear Wax to seal your product. With a lint-free rag, just simply rub the wax up and down on the board with the exception of the area you are going to attach the ledge. The reason is that the wax will repel the glue and not stick so avoid that area. Feel your board to make sure it is smooth. If not, add a little more wax.
12 – Grab your chicken wire and your wire cutters. Place on your board to measure out how much you need to secure to the board, by wrapping a few inches around the back. Eyeball where to add your chicken wire. With a staple gun, secure your chicken wire to the back. Hammer in place if needed.

13 – To build your cookbook stand, grab your Voodoo stain and your pieces of scrap wood. Stain with the same method as we did earlier.
14 – To create the lip of your cutting board, leave ½” inch front the bottom of your board as you hot glue (or wood glue) your wooden rectangular scrap wood horizontally on the bottom. Glue the second rectangular scrapbook on the front, and build that lip for your cookbook to rest in place. If you need to add nails to help it stay in place, do so from the back of your board. Tip* Be sure to let your wood glue set for 24 hours.
15 – To create a standing cookbook board, grab your triangular wood scrap (door stoppers) and position it on the back center of your board placing the 1st block on first, nice and flush with hot glue or wood glue. Tip* Play with the position before gluing officially down. The 2nd will create the angle to have your cookbook rest easily.
16 – Adorn with your favorite cookbook. The weight of the cookbook will keep it steady, functional, and cute!
Your mom, aunt, grandma, or any special person in your life with love this!
