Fall is my favorite time of year! You too can make your home feel like fall with this easy DIY Fall decor pumpkin patch sign. You are going to love how this sign looks and will want to add it to your fall decor this year!

DIY Fall Decor Pumpkin Patch Sign

I will be honest. Not all DIY crafts are created equal. Some are a little harder than others or might require a few more materials than you’d hope to use. But this DIY fall decor is the perfect craft because it is so easy, so cute, and honestly, anyone can do it. You too will love how cute this DIY fall decor craft is to make. You can even find most of your supplies in the Target Dollar Spot.

I’m thinking I need to invite some of my closest girlfriends over for a paint night to create our own Pumpkin Patch Signs, while we giggle and have a good time enjoying each other’s company. I think I will even light a candle that smells like fall to really make the evening more fun and use my DIY charcuterie board and have some yummy treats. Who else is with me? I just love fall! I also am very pleased with just how cute this DIY Pumpkin Patch Sign turned out.

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE A DIY Fall Decor PUMPKIN PATCH SIGN:

  • 12 X 16 Black Canvas
  • Wooden Craft Truck – Dollar StoreDOLLAR TREE
  • Wooden Directional Post Sign (Target Dollar Spot)
  • Chip Brush
  • Tip Brush
  • Acrylic paint – True Red, Cardamom Yellow, Burnt Umber, Burnt Orange, Leaf Green, black, turquoise
  • Waverly paint – Elephant
  • Baby Wipes
  • Black ink pad
  • CRICUT
  • Mini Heat Press
  • Folk Art Satin Acrylic Multisurface Paint – color Patina
  • Hot glue
  • Puppy Pads

STEPS:

1 – Grab your black canvas and your fall colors of acrylic paint. Begin by placing random size dots of your orange, yellow, and red on your canvas, focusing on the upper and middle side, along with the top section of your canvas. Mix and match your paints throughout.

2 – With your chip brush, dab over those paint spots creating a blended effect. The stiff bristles of this type of brush help this look come to life. Once you are happy, add a bit of green to really make it pop. There is no wrong way to do this. Set aside to dry.

3 – Grab your wooden directional post sign, your Waverly paint – Elephant color, and a baby wipe. To give this sign a weathered look, dab a bit of your gray paint on your baby wipe and cover your post completely. Work it into the grain of the wood and make it is distressed/weathered as you like.

4 – To complete the look, grab a black ink pad and rub it around the edges of your sign. Great way to add definition and dimension to your sign.

5 – Use a heat gun to help speed up the drying process. Your sign must be completely dry before moving on to the next step.

6 – I printed out my sign details, “HAYRIDES, PUMPKINS, CORN MAZE,” on Heat Transfer Vinyl using my Cricut, carefully removing/weeding the backing to apply it easily to my sign. Tip* If you don’t have a cricket, you can use stickers, stencils, or even hand paint/write directly on there. Get creative and use what you have. I used Font’s: BFC Scary Skelly, Cartoon Script Roman, and BFC Haunted House.

7 – Pay attention to sign placement if you care about exactness, or just eyeball it like me.

8 – To properly apply the vinyl, use your mini heat press over each section of your sign, one at a time. Tip* Heat Transfer Vinyl is my favorite. SO much easier to use than regular vinyl!

9 – Set aside.

10 – Grab your truck, Mod Podge, any color paint you want for your truck (I used Patina-colored acrylic paint by Folk Art), black & orange paint, a small paintbrush, and cinnamon. Yep, you read that right, cinnamon.

11 – On your clean puppy pad, paint your truck your desired color, any way you want. Using acrylic paint works best.

12 – Dry with a heat gun.

13 – Place a small amount of Mod Podge on a plate and with your tip brush, dribble on tiny sections on your truck where you want to have a “Rusted” look. Tip* I like it by my wheels and the base of the truck.

14 – Sprinkle cinnamon directly over your Mod Podge on your truck.  Use your tip brush again to help it adhere, lightly tapping. Shake off excess. Tip* Puppy Pads are a lifesaver for easy cleanup.

15 – Bring back your painted black canvas. It should be nice and dry. Apply some hot glue to the back of your wooden signpost and place it directly on the canvas. Next, apply a bit of hot glue on the base of the sign to attach the truck to it. And that’s it!

So easy and less than $10.00 to create this adorable fall home decor! Have you checked your calendars yet for a fun paint night with your girlfriends? So glad you were here. Until next time, happy fall.
