Most of our date nights consist of stopping at Goodwill. You never know what you are going to find, and the thrill of the hunt is what I enjoy the most. There are so many times I pick up something and Bill says ” what are you going to do with that?” To be honest, I rarely know! I found this bike on one of our trips. It looked sad, you can even see the dust on it. After sitting in the closet for awhile, I finally figured it was time to transform this treasure! I love Farmhouse decor, some say it’s a fade, I disagree!
Let the transformation begin!
I definitely had to clean it up. I always seem to have spray paint on hand, so I pulled the can out and went outside to make this bike over. The color I used was Heirloom, I love this color if you are looking for a farmhouse white. It’s just subtle enough and has a creamy white look.
Before painting it, I removed the basket. I had a different idea for it to give me the farmhouse decor I was looking for. It took about 3 coats to completely cover the brown. It’s important to spray lightly to avoid drips. Don’t rush the process… don’t ask me how I know.
While the paint was drying, I went to work on the basket. This basket was in good shape. I decided it needed something to make it even better. I had some wide burlap ribbon so I glued the ribbon over the edge. This was a simple addition to the basket that took nothing but some ribbon and hot glue.
So we are almost there… just one more touch…the cotton stems! Cotton stems are a staple in Farmhouse decor. It couldn’t have been easier, I had some floral foam in the craft room, I cut it to fit the basket. Then all I did was clip the stems and arranged them in the basket.
This project was so easy to put together with supplies I had on hand! If you enjoyed this DIY you may enjoy this DIY Farmhouse Wreath
Now friends, I know how busy a life of a crafter is, so PIN IT for later so when you are ready you can use this for inspiration!
I would love to know in the comments your latest Goodwill makeover!
