Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins – you definitely see a lot of them during the fall season, but I bet you haven’t seen one like mine! The best part is that it looks all fancy but it’s actually super easy to create. In this post, I” going to show you exactly how to make this “galvanized” pumpkin door hanger.
Supplies needed
Pumpkin Door Hanger- grabbed mine from my friend Katie at junque2jewel
Wood Biscuits- size #10 found in most hardware stores or AMAZON STORE
Cooper Leafing & Adhesive found here
Folk Art Metallic
Decoart paint- Black & White & Burnt Umber
Chip Brush
Baby Wipes
We are going to start off by making this plane wood pumpkin look galvanized! Sand your pumpkin to give it a smooth finish, then apply a coat of the metallic paint. Mine only needed 1 coat, but if you find you can still see the wood, apply a 2nd coat.
Now to obtain the galvanized look, you are going to take your black paint and using a chip brush (if you have it), dip brush in paint and blot most of it off. Then simply go around your pumpkin, stippling the paint around the edges and randomly on the pumpkin. Repeat with the white paint. You will be amazed how much your wood pumpkin will look galvanized.
For the additional parts of the pumpkin I used my favorite technique of using the baby wipes and applying Burnt Umber to give it the stain look.

Now comes the fun part – working with the cooper leafing! This looks like it is going to be difficult, but it really is not that hard. We start off by applying the adhesive to the wood biscuits. It’s important to let the adhesive sit on the biscuits for a minimum of 10 minutes or until it becomes tacky. If you apply the cooper leafing too soon, it will be one hot mess. Ask me how I know 🙂
Gently take your cooper leafing and place on top of the biscuit. You can remove the excess with a chip brush. Aren’t these the prettiest thing you have seen!!
Let’s put this pumpkin together

It is a great craft, I love it. I
I want to make a wreath out of biscuits, but I can only find biscuits that have numbers or letters on them. Yours appeared not to have numbers on them. Where did you find your biscuits?
Thank you!
