Do you have a special letter, recipe, or something handwritten by a loved one? If yes, then this is the DIY for you! You will see how simple it is with just a few supplies you can change some old rolling pins into a unique piece of home decor.

LET’S GET STARTED

Months ago Bill asked his mom for his granny’s old recipes, so originally they were given to us just so we could make some good Sloppy Joe’s. When I saw they were handwritten by her I knew they were too special to just sit in the drawer. I kept them in a safe place until I knew what I wanted to do with them.

While we were thrift shopping, I picked up these rolling pins and instantly knew the rolling pins and the recipes were the perfect matches. To get started,

I cleaned, sanded, and painted the rolling pins with my favorite White by Waverly. It coats nicely and dries quickly. I decided to paint the handles black to give it a simple look.

Once the paint dried it was time to apply the recipes to the rolling pins. I did want to preserve the originals, so I decided to make a copy of the recipes. The paper I used was vellum since it’s transparent and less stiff than standard scrapbook paper. When you are working on curved surfaces this is helpful. The paper I used can be found here:Amazon

At first I thought of just copying the recipes and applying them, but I came across Digital Art on Etsy. There were so many designs to choose from, it was exactly what was needed on this project to take it to the next level. You can see so many designs here:Digital Paper

GETTING THOSE RECIPES ON THE PAPER

I downloaded the digital paper and then printed it out on copy paper. I also took a copy of the recipes. After that I cut the recipe out and fit it within the design, I know it seems like a lot of steps but the end results will be worth it. Once everything was where I wanted it I made the final copy this time replacing the copy paper with the vellum paper.

APPLYING THE PAPER

I applied the paper to the rolling pins using mod podge and then used mod podge to seal it. These are decorative and will not be used for anything other than decoration.

This DIY came out just as I had hoped. This is a beautiful piece of decor for our home that has such a special meaning. Now the recipes sit beautifully on our counters to be seen.

I hope this inspires you to look around your home and find something that has meaning to you and DIY it into something amazing. I would love to see your DIYs tag us on Instagram at #beeinspiredmarket
