Gather your supplies and follow along in this step-by-step tutorial as I teach you exactly how to make a cute, but simple Dollar tree Halloween Door hanger. You will not be disappointed in the way this turns out, follow along and see the reveal!

How to Make a Halloween Door Hanger

Halloween is one of those holidays that I do not usually decorate my house for. I always prefer the simple fall decor in my home, over the creepy Halloween stuff. It is just not my style. But I have to admit, this Halloween Door Hanger just might have changed my mind. This simple DIY Dollar Tree craft is the perfect amount of creepy, mixed with all things cute I believe every Halloween craft should have.

The little spiders, the web, and the PURPLE! I just love Purple! It is a top favorite. I hope the trick-or-treaters love seeing it hang from my door when they come knocking on Halloween night!

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE A HALLOWEEN DOOR HANGER:

  • Pizza pan – Dollar Tree
  • Deco Art –  Black color & Purple Pizazz
  • Whimsy Decorative Ribbon – Hobby Lobby or Amazon
  • Variety of wooden beads – 20 mm, knobs, etc.
    • Fake plastic spiders – Dollar Tree
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • 14 Wreath Ring – Dollar Tree
  • Happy Halloween image – calendar works great
  • Craft Rotary Circle Cutter
  • Foam brush
  • Mod Podge
  • Posca pen – white
  • Tiny paintbrush
  • Brayer roller
  • Gorilla Glue Spray Adhesive
  • Black ribbon
  • Jute
  • E6000
  • Hot glue gun
  • Puppy Pads

STEPS:

1 – Grab your pizza pan from Dollar Tree and apply a thin layer of Mod Podge. Let it dry. Don’t stress if it’s thicker in some spots than others. Tip* This helps the paint adhere better to the pan.

2 – With your foam brush, apply a layer of your purple paint. I’m using Purple Pizazz by Deco Art. It is my favorite! Be sure to cover your entire front side of the pizza pan, paying attention to the rounded edge. Usually takes 2 coats. Tip* Use of a foam brush helps not to have streak marks in the paint.

3 – Set aside to dry.

4 – Grab your wooden round beads and paint black with your foam brush. Paint as many beads for as many spiders as you want for your sign. Tip* You can use the plastic spiders found at Dollar Tree if you are short on time or just want to skip this step altogether.

5 – Grab your black pipe cleaner. Cut into small, even sections to serve as spider legs. Hot glue the pipe cleaner onto your dry wooden bead to create your spiders.

6 – Draw on a face with a white Posca pen. Set aside.

7 – Grab your calendar and tear out your Happy Halloween page. Typically calendars are 11” so that is what makes them perfect for this project. Tip* You can use any image you like for this project, so google is your friend.

8 – Grab your measuring tape or ruler to measure the diameter of your inner section of the pizza pan. Measure an exact circle and cut out

9 – Once cut to fit, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on the back of your calendar page. Adhere it directly to the pizza pan. Use a brayer roller to help remove excess air bubbles and wrinkles. Set aside.

10 – Grab your decorative ribbon and wreath ring. Apply a layer of spray adhesive directly to your wreath ring. Take your ribbon and wrap it around your ring. Go all the way to complete your circle. Spray in sections as you add your ribbon. Tip* Be sure your workspace is covered when working with spray adhesive. That is why I love puppy pads!

11 – Next apply E6000 to the outer edge of your pizza pan. Follow it up with a layer of hot glue as well, to have a firm hold. Flip your wreath down, next applying your pizza pan to rest on top of it, facing down. This gives it a good surface to adhere to. Press down.

12 – To add some fun, hot glue your spiders directly onto your wreath sign where you like.

13 – To create your backing for hanging your sign, hot glue some jute on the back. Make it as long or as short as you like.

14 – If you have been here before, you know I am not a bow maker. I am okay with that. But this needed a bow. Take your 2 in. black ribbon and layout. Have your two outer edges crisscross on top of each other. Gather in middle with jute/twine and secure in the center to create a makeshift bow. Apply a thin piece of ribbon to hide the twine if you prefer and hot glue to cover.

15 – Hot glue your bow on the top of your wreath and be proud of your hard work!

I am a huge fan of this type of Halloween decor. It is perfect. Not too scary and welcoming to guests of ALL ages. Just good old-fashioned cute, with a little bit of creepy. I can’t wait to hang this on my door. I wonder if the trick or treaters will love it as much as I do?

Be sure to Pin this Halloween door hanger so you can make one this Halloween!
