Thrift store crafts are some of my most favorite decor items in my home. The thrill of finding thrifted home decor is like hunting for treasure! You never know what you will find and the best part is telling my friends and family when they visit how exactly the thrifted home decor got its makeover!
This thrift store makeover is so simple. All I did was add paint and white wax and was able to transform two love birds into a super cute decoration for my home! You too can turn thrifted items into home treasures!

SUPPLIES NEED TO MAKE YOUR THRIFTED HOME DECOR
- Thrifted figurine/vase (resin type material)
- Pure Baking Soda
- Old Container to mix
- DIY Paint – Clay Based Paint (color: Apothecary)
- Waverly paint – (color: Plaster)
- Annie Sloan White wax
- French Phrase Template (Download below)
- Tobacco Basket
- Wooden Sign
- Flowers
- Paint brush
- Sanding block
- Plastic glove (optional)
- Carbon/Graphite Paper
- Posca Pen or a Black Sharpie
- Black Ink pad
- Lint Free Rag
Steps
1 – Grab your old plastic container. Pour about ½ cup of your clay based paint and ½ cup of pure baking soda to begin. Mix together, creating a new texture. Remember 1 to 1 ratio, so mix what you need based on what you are covering. Tip: Use painter’s tape to build a little spout on your paint can to help with no drips. Remove the tape right away so it doesn’t make a mess! Wear plastic gloves to keep yourself extra clean.

2 – Paint your figurine(s) with your new paint mixture, completely covering it. It should only use 1 coat. Move aside to dry. Tip: Use your Lazy Susan to help spin your figurines as you work.
3 – Grab your blank wooden sign and paint white. Cover completely. Tip: Use a heat gun to speed up the process!

4 – Grab your sanding block and smooth it up a bit. Wipe with a dry paper towel.
5 – Grab your French Printable and place it on top of your carbon/graphite paper with shiny side down, on top of your dry wooden sign. Trace the letters of printable with pencil. Lift up and see the writing on your wooden sign. Voila!

6 – With your Posca Pen or a Black Sharpie, outline your words on sign. When complete, take your black ink pad and rub along the edges of the sign to add some definition and make it pop.
7 – With your dry figurine, grab your White Wax to accentuate the details and brush. You will load up your brush and generously cover the figurine with white wax. It will protect your piece.

8 – Once covered, you will grab your dry lint free rag and begin wiping off excess white wax. It will work its way into the grooves to accentuate the details and add texture. Tip* You don’t want your figurine to be sticky. So keep on wiping. Clean your brushes with just soap and water. Like the antique look better? Use the Antique Wax from Waverly instead.
9 – Turn on your glue gun to heat it up. Grab your flower and remove it from the stem and cut the tip. Glue flower to your wooden white sign.

10 – If you want this home decor to be permanent, use hot glue to secure it in place. I want the opportunity to change it out with other pieces, so I am using a thumbtack to attach my sign in place on the top of my tobacco basket. Then insert your figurines inside and just be amazed at your super cute thrifted home decor.
