STEPS TO MAKE A LEMON DECOR SIGN:
– To begin, wipe down your wooden board, while wearing gloves just to wipe off any excess debris.
– Grab your baby wipes and a tiny bit of Dixie Bell Voodoo Gel. Rub all over your wooden board.. Don’t forget to get it all over your wooden board to finish it off. Make sure it is dry before moving on. (You can use any paint if you prefer.)
– Don’t forget to get the sides of your sign.
– With a candle or Vaseline, rub it over the top of your wooden sign on edges where it would naturally wear. This layer will help with a special technique creating a “Chippy look.” Tip* Don’t forget where you put it.
- With your paintbrush, cover your wooden sign with your Dixie Bell paint, color Cotton. Cover your board completely, even the sides.
– Use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.
– Add a second coat if needed. Dry again completely.
– Grab your putty knife or flat edge, and scrape where you placed your candle wax or Vaseline. This creates a “Chippy look” on your wooden board. Wipe off excess from the board to clean it up.
– Grab your hand sanding block, 220 grit, and rub it all over your board. This cleans up your painted wood and gives it a smooth work service.
– Next we must seal our board. Grab your Dixie Bell Gator Hide and brush it on the top. Be sure to cover it all the way to the edge. You can use a polyurethane spray to seal if you prefer that as well. Tip* Make sure it is nice and dry before you move on to the next step.
– Use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.
– Grab the SVG file for your Cricut and print off, “Life is Sweet” on your Oramask 813. Tip*If you don’t have a Cricut machine, you can print the file out on WORD on carbon paper with that technique. Or, in our market, we carry Farmhand Stamps to try as well.
– With your Cricut letters, printed on Oramask 813, carefully pull off the backing. Eyeball where you want your words, before you place. Place your transfers on your wooden sign. With a flat edge, flatten and scrape the transfer to the board. Once fully transferred, carefully remove the top layer of your transfer.
– With a makeup sponge wedge and some black paint, carefully dab over your transfer stencil filling in your letters, “Life is Sweet.” Tip* Less paint is better so you don’t bleed through.
– Carefully remove your vinyl transfer paper backing from the wooden board. Use an exacto knife to help if needed.
– Grab your IOD Lemon Transfer sheets, available in our market. Cut out the lemons you want to use for your project. Play with placement on your board before committing to their application.
– With your lemon transfers, remove the backing. Place the lemon transfer on your wooden board and with the flat edge wipe stick in your IOD package, smooth out your transfer to help it adhere to the board. Use pressure, push down, and smooth it out. Use the back of the transfer to help burnish it onto your board.
– Repeat with all of your transfers on your board. Tip* If you are placing the transfer on an edge, pull off the backing and use your fingers to help flatten it to board instead of the plastic wipe stick.
– To seal, add one coat of your Dixie Bell Gator Hide to the board. And DONE! If you loved this one you may also like Vintage Picnic Basket Makeover
