Patriotic Pinwheel Wreath
Are you looking for an adorable wreath that shows your love for this great country and doesn’t break the bank either? Well, look no further. This DIY Patriotic craft is so festive, fun, and frugal! I used tons of scraps from my fabric stash, a wreath frame from the Dollar Tree, and my free Patriotic Bundle of Digital Download scrapbook pages.

All in all friends, this project came together for less than $10! That’s a bargain when it comes to a wreath, right? I can’t wait to add this to my front door, paired with all my patriotic decor for the 4th of July. Flags, Fireworks, and this Patriotic Pinwheel wheel wreath will be the perfect all-American additions to that space.
Follow along and I will teach you step by step how to get this look for your home, in less than an hour! If you are ready, then let’s get started. I know I am ready! I was born (in the USA) ready!
SUPPLIES NEED TO MAKE YOUR PATRIOTIC PINWHEEL WREATH:
- Bee Inspired Stars and Stripes Bundle
- Wreath Form – Dollar Tree
- Bandanas – Extra Large red and blue –
- Patriotic Materials of any kind
- Burlap Runner
- Any type of burlap fabric will work
- Welcome wood chip sign – Dollar Tree
- Wooden Buttons
- Burnt Umber
- Measuring mat & board
- Rotary Cutter (Fiskar) or fabric scissors
- Small Paint Brush
- Low Temp Hot glue
- Heat Gun
- Baby Wipes
- Puppy Pads
STEPS:
1 – Grab your free digital downloadable images from the Patriotic Bundle and be sure to print your images so they are duplicated on both sides. Print 2 sets of each sheet so it is double-sided. Set aside.

2 – Grab your “Welcome” wood chip sign from Dollar Tree and remove the hangers. Grab your Burnt Umber paint, baby wipes, and gloves. Apply a little drop to a baby wipe and brush it on your “Welcome” sign. It doesn’t take much y’all. Darken up the wood a bit. To get into the grooves, use a spray bottle with some water and a tiny paintbrush. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Set aside to dry. TIp* You can paint this instead of any color you prefer. You could even leave it as is. These are just ideas and inspiration. But you do what you like best.

3 – Grab your bandanas or patriotic fabric scraps and cut them into 2” strips, about 18” in length. I am not a measurer, so if you are that is fine. Cut a slit in your fabric and tear it to form your strips of patriotic fabric. They can be all sorts of lengths. Tip* If your fabric scraps are shorter than 18”, that is just fine. You can play with placement later as we add.
4 – Repeat the same steps to cut some strips of burlap as well. You may need to cut your burlap instead of tearing it. Be sure to use good fabric scissors or even a rotary cutter. Make enough strips to fill up your wreath. I can’t tell you the exact amount of fabrics, friends, because we all have different wreath sizes, fabrics, etc.
5 – Grab your double-sided printed pages and fold them in half to begin. Then fold again into fourths. Cut on your folds. You should get 4 rectangular pieces from one sheet of paper. Repeat this step for as many pinwheels as you hope to make. (I made 5.)
6 – With one of your fourths of paper and some scissors, cut ALMOST to the center, being sure to leave some space so you don’t accidentally cut in half. Repeat on the other side as well so you will have 4 little cuts from your corners.
7 – Next, determine which style you want your design to look. Tip* Always have a visual plan before you begin to ensure you get the desired look you like best! Grab a corner and add a dab of hot glue to the center, being careful not to crease your paper so it creates your pinwheel look. Repeat with all of your corners. Be extra careful not to burn your fingers as you hot glue your corner flaps in place to the middle. Repeat until all 4 corners are folded!
8 -To hide that center, grab your wooden button embellishments and determine which one you want to add. Hot glue in place. Tip* You can use any sort of embellishment you have in your craft stash! Check out the Foam Scatter I used on my Patriotic Pinwheel Napkin Rings! That would be extra cute too!
9 – Repeat for as many pinwheels as you want for your wreath. I made 5. You do you! Tip* With all the hot glue strings, use a great gun to help them go away easiest.
10 – Bring back your wreath form and your scraps of fabric. Fold your strip in half, with the folded middle facing towards the outside of your wreath and the 2 ends facing inside the center of the wreath. Stick your fabric strip under the wreath form covering 2 rows from the center, and in the open hole, insert the fabric ends to tie it in place. Repeat a pattern, mixing your fabrics. I used red and blue to surround my wreath. Tip* If strips are too short, that is okay. Play with your fabric a bit by tying them in between your longer ones to change the lengths throughout. You could even tie your smaller pieces together. This gives it a weathered look. Just be creative!

11 – Once you have added your red and blue strips of fabric all around, use your burlap strips to fill in here and there. They can be placed on any of the wire spots you have open. Be creative.
12 – Next grab your hot glue gun, apply your patriotic pinwheels and attach to your fabric all about. Be sure to add an ample amount to make sure they stick on tight. Remember to leave space to add your “Welcome” spot on the wreath. Tip* This will go on my front porch, so it is protected from the weather elements, so the paper pinwheels will be just fine. You could always use fabric instead.
13 – Next grab your “Welcome” sign and position it in the center through your wreath frame. Use hot-glue to attach.
Now get outside and decorate your front porch with the cutest little red, white, and blue wreath that you created all by yourself. I have always said, “Why BUY it when you can DIY it?”
