There is so much inspiration in making over old items and transforming them into something new! Whether it’s old accessories you already have or new treasures from thrift stores, you can use your own creativity to update any home decor.
I am going to show just how easy it is to bring old things back to life by repurposing them into something fresh and new.
Thrifted Wood Tray Makeover
Supplies Needed:
- 1 Wood Circular Tray 16 ½” diameter
- Dixie Bell No Paint Gel Stain Espresso
- Dixie Belle Clear Matte Spray Wax
- Dixie Belle White Lightning Cleaning Solution or Cleaner of Your Choice
- 4 Large Wooden Half Beads
- IOD Lemon Transfer Paper 4 12”x16” Sheets
- Dixie Belle Sealer
- 1 Thrifted Leather Belt
Tools Needed:
- Plastic Gloves
- 2 Sponges
- Cloth Rags
- 1 Old Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Plastic Scraper
- Hot Glue
- Brad Nail Gun
Steps
2 – Dip the sponge into the gel stain and apply it onto the wood tray surface, starting with the inside. Work your way around the edges and on the back, making sure to apply a thin layer with the wood grain. Take your cloth rag and wipe any excess stain from the tray.
3 – Seal your wood tray by spraying the matte spray wax onto the surface. Wipe the wax into the wood tray using another clean rag. Let your tray dry for at least 24 hours.
4 – Turn your wooden half beads so the flat side is up. Use a small paintbrush to gel stain the wooden beads. These will be the feet to raise your wooden tray. Wipe any excess stain off with a rag. Set aside to dry.
5 – Cut the lemons out from your IOD transfer paper. Arrange on the tray to see where you’d like them. Remove the backing from the paper and stick onto the tray surface. Use an old credit card or a plastic scraper tool to press on the lemon image down while pulling back the clear top sheet. This allows the lemon image to transfer to the wood tray surface.
6 – Repeat the same process to transfer various lemon images wherever you’d prefer onto the surface of your wooden tray. When you have added all the lemon images you desire, add a coat of sealer with a sponge to secure the images onto the surface.
7 – Turn the tray over to add your wood feet. Hot glue the wooden half beads on each corner of the circle evenly.
8 – Cut off the buckles from your thrifted leather belt. Measure how long you’d like your handles and cut two lengths from the leather.
9 – Use your brad nail gun to secure the leather handle onto the edge of your tray. Repeat the same process to add your second handle on the opposite side.
10 – Accessorize your newly transformed wooden tray and enjoy!
